Commitment to Hereford Racecourse strong at public meeting

Westfields Hall was overflowing last night (Wed August 8) such was the strength of feeling about the future of Herefordshire Racecourse.

The public meeting had been organised by local councillors. It was attended by local residents, race trainers, and other people interested in racing at Herefordshire. The focus of the meeting was to see how the community can help to keep racing in Hereford.

The meeting was chaired by independent business man Mark Ellis. Councillor Mark Hubbard, Leader of the It's Our County Group on Herefordshire Council, Councillor John Jarvis, Leader of the Council, Jesse Norman MP gave introductory talks. There was a lively floor discussion involving local councillors, racing experts and many others.

Cllr Jarvis, Herefordshire Council Leader said:

“I am grateful to the local councillors who stepped forward to organise this meeting. There was a strong message that the community, politicians and the racing industry all want to see quality racing continue at Hereford Racecourse.

“The turn out last night was really encouraging and if people continue to pledge their support I’m confident that we can keep racing in Hereford.

“Demonstrating the widespread public support for Hereford Racecourse sends a huge message to Northern Racing about their decision to leave Hereford.”
