Appeal for volunteers at Heritage Centre

Ledbury Heritage Centre in Church Lane, which is run by Herefordshire Council’s heritage services team, is gearing up for the 2012 season and is appealing for volunteers to staff it.

The centre is totally dependant on volunteers to staff it and opportunities include helping out front-of-house, talking to visitors and telling them all about the wonderful area around Ledbury, or working behind the scenes in the small shop.

Training and the chance to ‘shadow’ existing volunteers will be provided and volunteers don’t have to already know everything about the place.

Alexia Clark, Herefordshire Council’s visitor services officer, said: “The Heritage Centre attracts a lot of visitors, many of them being purely opportunistic, seeing an open door and coming in to see just what is on offer.

“Visitors to the Heritage Centre always comment favourably on the town, envying those of us who are fortunate to live in such a delightful part of England, and surrounded by so many attractive historical buildings. Those volunteers who welcome them are valued ambassadors for this wonderful town and we would love to have more on board,” she added.
