Council plans for weekend shutdown of ICT data centre

Herefordshire Council is putting in contingency plans to ensure minimal disruption to services during a planned power shutdown of a main ICT data centre centre from 5pm this Friday, October 19 until 11pm Sunday, October 21, 2012.

Major essential electrical work at the council’s Plough Lane offices in Hereford will mean that the majority of ICT systems must be closed down for the weekend.

The council’s ICT systems will be affected during the shutdown on this weekend and so will some telephone services, including extensions and published out-of-hours numbers starting with 26 however there will be a small emergency switchboard that will operate during this period.

This essential work will mean that some council services that operate on Saturday 19 October will be affected including limited services info shops and libraries.

The council’s web sites will be inaccessible during the period along with online payments, job applications and search facilities. The public facing website has messages in place to advise citizens of this.

The council has reviewed its service continuity plans to keep any disruption to a minimum for the public.
