Council confirms the sale of The Chestnuts has been agreed

The sale of The Chestnuts in Ross-on-Wye has now been agreed by Herefordshire Council.

The Chestnuts was run as a care home for over 20 years before it closed in August 2011.  The decision to close the home was made by its trustees despite the best efforts of them and the council to identify an alternative arrangement.  As a result of the closure, the property subsequently lost its licence to operate as a residential care home and since then the future of The Chestnuts has been a source of much speculation in the local area.

The council made the decision in late 2011 to put the property up for sale and after procuring an agent to undertake its marketing and sale negotiations under a closed tender regime, a sale has now been agreed and a contract signed.

The new owner of The Chestnuts has submitted a planning application to Herefordshire Council to restore the property to a family residence along with creating five new homes on the site.

Once the application has been formally registered, the proposals will be available for public viewing at:
