Council warns of icy conditions

Herefordshire Council is warning residents of possible icy conditions over the weekend, as a result of today’s snow.

It is predicted that temperatures won’t rise above freezing over the weekend, which means today’s snow will freeze and unfortunately turn into ice.  This is a concern, as ice is often something you can’t see as clearly as the snow itself, especially on minor roads and pavements.

We would like to ask all road users and pedestrians to be aware of possible ice if they are out and about over the weekend and take appropriate care where necessary.

During Thursday and Friday, the council used 861 tonnes of salt to help keep our roads moving as much as possible and we are prepared for any more snow which may fall in the coming days.

To keep up to date with road and service closures over the weekend, please visit the customer alerts box on the council website or our Twitter and Facebook pages.
