The popular payment service, which launches on Monday 28 January 2013, offers motorists the convenience of paying to park using their mobile phone and charging the parking fee to their credit or debit card. The new service will be available alongside the existing pay and display method, giving users a choice in how they pay.
PayByPhone is already used by millions of motorists all over the UK, including those parking in nearby Gloucestershire and using the service could not be simpler. For those who choose to pay by phone, they simply call the displayed local rate telephone number and provide the car parks identification code, their vehicle registration number and the fee will be taken directly from their credit or debit card. The parking charge will be forwarded to the council while the small additional service charge will be kept by PayByPhone to cover their costs.
Councillor Graham Powell, cabinet member for education and infrastructure, said: “PayByPhone is a new convenient service for users, providing helpful payment options, which is particularly good if you don’t know how long you’re going to be.”
“The handy text message service lets you know when your parking ticket is due to run out, allowing you to extend your parking time without having to return to your vehicle. We recognise that life is stressful enough without worrying about your parking ticket, so we hope this new service will help in some small way.”
In addition to the parking fee, there will be a small service charge of 20p to pay by phone, 10p for a reminder text message and an additional 20p to extend the parking time.
If PayByPhone has not been used before, users will need to register their vehicle registration number and credit or debit card. This can be completed in advance online at www.paybyphone.co.uk/registration, by downloading the PayByPhone app on a smartphone or by calling 0330 400 7275.
Once a user has registered with PayByPhone, they can then pay for their parking quickly and simply throughout Herefordshire and elsewhere in the UK, where the service is available.
