The scheme which is due to be completed in September 2013 will continue through Rotherwas to Chapel Road. The longer term plan is that the route will then continue on to Holme Lacy along the line of the former railway opening up access to the Wye Valley.
The route will offer an ideal commuter link which will cater for pedestrians, cyclists and disabled users, from north to south. Current journey times by car from the north east of the city to Rotherwas can take up to forty minutes during peak times. Walking the new route will offer a quicker alternative and cyclists could expect to complete a journey from the city centre to the furthest end of the Rotherwas Industrial Estate in less than 15 minutes.
Councillor Powell, Cabinet Member Education & Infrastructure visited the site and said, “this is an exciting development for Hereford and will make travelling from the city to Hereford’s Enterprise Zone quicker, easier and safer. The route will also provide an attractive walk or bike ride for those wanting to experience some of the history of Rotherwas or to venture further afield into the Herefordshire countryside”
