Hereford pub has premises license suspended

Herefordshire Council’s regulatory sub-committee has imposed a suspension following an expedited review sought by West Mercia Police.

West Mercia Police sought the review of the licence at the premises known as the Brewers Arms in Eign Road, Hereford following a stabbing which took place in the premises.

The regulatory sub-committee was told at an expedited hearing yesterday (November 27) that the suspension is necessary for promotion of the licensing objectives of the prevention of crime and public safety.

Fred Spriggs, licensing officer for Herefordshire Council, said: “It was the view of the members of the committee that this type of incident was considered so serious that the premises needed to be closed.  The incident happened at about 4.47am which is outside of the hours permitted by the Premise Licence, which was one of the factors considered by the members in reaching their decision."
