If you have a map collector on your Christmas list, a surplus of original Ordnance Survey maps dating from 1904 – 1925, will be on sale Herefordshire’s archive service on Saturday 16 November. The sale will take place at the Record Office in Harold Street Hereford from 1pm – 4pm.
The maps are on the old scale 25” to the mile, each locality having its own sheet. Prices will be up to £10 per sheet, depending on condition. A wide range of second had books on local and general history will also be on sale.
Visitors will have the opportunity for a behind the scenes tour of the archive as the service marks the launch of the national Explore your Archive campaign.
Senior Archivist Rhys Griffith said: “Our researchers and visitors often wonder how things are organised in the hidden corners of the building. This is a chance to satisfy that curiosity, find out about the surprising history of the record office and see some of our archival treasures.”
There will be tours at 2pm and 3pm. For further information, phone 01432 260750.
