It’s that time of year again when the council’s electoral services will be contacting every household in Herefordshire to ensure the Register of Electors is up to date.
For those included on the register, it not only entitles you to vote but also makes it easier to obtain credit, as the electoral register is checked by organisations such as credit reference companies, banks and building societies, before approving credit applications.
This year’s annual canvass starts today 1 October 2013 with an eCanvass. There will be over 12,000 households across the county receiving an e-mail to ask if there have been any changes to their registration details. The eCanvass was introduced last year with only 2,000 registered households, so such a large increase in e-mail registered residents will generate savings on paper, printing and postage. To access the eCanvass registration website, please visit https://www.elecreg.co.uk/hfds-ecanvass.
Don’t worry if you don’t receive an e-mail as a paper canvass form will be sent out at the beginning of November. There are a number of ways to respond to the form alongside returning it in the pre-paid post envelope. There is a Freephone telephone service on 0808 284 1448, an SMS text message service on 07786 209 348 or online at www.elecreg.co.uk/hfds, which will be available from 1 November.
The new register will be published in February 2014, in advance of the European Parliamentary elections on 22 May 2014, so a swift response is required.
