From 1 September 2013 Herefordshire Council is changing its stray dog collection service and will no longer operate an out-of-hours stray dog collection service in the county on weekends or after 5pm weekdays.
A person who takes possession of a dog as a stray will be advised of the contact number of the council’s reception centre (kennels) and asked to take the dog there.
This can be done by appointment with the kennels between the hours of 08.00 and 21.00 seven days a week. Where someone is unable to take the dog to the kennels they will be contacted by the council’s dog collection service during office hours, 09.00-17.00hrs Mon-Fri., and arrangements will be made to collect the dog from them.
This change is part of the council’s overall plan to reduce budgets and will save the council £12,000 a year.
