Keep sandbags for future flooding

Sandbags on a pallet

During the recent severe weather across the county, Herefordshire Council issued more than 20,000 sandbags to assist people with flooding at their homes and businesses.

Wherever possible, the council is asking people to keep hold of them so they can be reused should any further flooding occur during the year. If they are wet, it is recommended that you dry them out first, and then store them in a shed, garage or under cover to keep them dry.

If you are unable store them, the sand can be spread on gardens and the empty sacks disposed of in refuse bins. If the sandbags are visibly contaminated or if they have been directly contaminated by septic tanks or sewer flooding, please contact sthodges@herefordshire.gov.uk or 01432 261923.
