Herefordshire Council is delighted with the announced visit by The Princess Royal on Wednesday 15 January.
The Princess Royal will be officially opening The Livestock Market on Roman Road in Hereford, as part of her visit to the county.
Councillor Patricia Morgan, cabinet member for corporate services, said: “We are delighted to welcome The Princess Royal to Herefordshire and are pleased that she will be officially opening The Livestock Market.
“The council took the decision a number of years ago to create a new livestock market on the outskirts of Hereford, not only to allow the development of a retail quarter within the city centre but also to create a modern custom-built livestock facility which allows for increased business and improved animal welfare.
“The new livestock market, which opened in 2011, is more than double the size of the old site and has gone from strength to strength in the past two and a half years, with increased visitors and sales and is certainly one of the top markets in the country. Sales have increased by approximately 15 per cent with one auction in October 2013 completely filling the market with 12,300 sheep for sale. This is fantastic news for the county’s valuable livestock sector.”
