The first phase of roadworks to refurbish Newmarket Street and Widemarsh Gate in Hereford will begin tonight (Monday 6 January). This will entail the removal of the central reservation along Newmarket Street and will take approximately one week. The work will be undertaken at night and traffic will be permitted in both directions throughout, keeping traffic disruption to a minimum.
Following the removal of the central reservation, and for the following three weeks, work will take place to lay footpaths along Newmarket Street. These works will be carried out during the day and two lanes of traffic in either direction will be maintained. As the works progress we will update our website to inform the change in traffic management and impact on the network.
During February, work to construct the right turn from Blueschool Street into Widemarsh Gate north will commence. Due to the excavation needed and the width of the available carriageway, only one lane in either direction will be maintained. This will only be for a short length of time and two lanes feeding the Edgar Street roundabout will be maintained at all times.
