Thousands of students across Herefordshire are celebrating today after receiving their GCSE exam results.
The provisional results indicate that 60% of students have achieved five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade A* - C including English and mathematics, which builds on the success of last year’s results and shows continued improvement.
The percentage of pupils achieving GCSE English and mathematics in Herefordshire has surpassed the national average:
English 72% 65.4%
Mathematics 72% 63.3%
Councillor Jonathan Lester, Cabinet member for young people and children’s wellbeing, said: “I’m delighted that our GCSE students have followed the success of their A-level peers with another set of positive exam results for the county.
“The dedication and hard work of the students, parents and schools has clearly paid off and I wish all our young people the best of luck in their chosen futures whether they decide on further education, training courses or employment.”
