Two charities, the British Heart Foundation and Forces Support are getting a welcome boost from Herefordshire residents thanks to a new reuse container which has been opened at Rotherwas Household Recycling Centre.
Herefordshire Council and Worcestershire County Council have piloted a scheme which allows residents to donate to charity at the same time as taking their unwanted items to the Household Recycling Centre.
Residents are asked to donate their unwanted but usable furniture and bric-and-brac into the reuse container on-site instead of it going to landfill.
British Heart Foundation and Forces Support will take the items to sell at their charity shops across the county.
Steve Richardson, regional operations manager for Forces Support Charitysaid: “We’re really happy to be working with Herefordshire Council to reduce the waste going to landfill and to also help generate stock to sell at our stores.
The money we generate helps to support forces families who have lost loved ones. Thank you to everyone who has already donated their unwanted items, you might not want your stuff anymore but someone else will”
Leominster Household Recycling Centre already has a reuse container where hundreds of items have been diverted from landfill to be used again by St Michaels Hospice.
