Man convicted following abusive behaviour

A motorist pleaded guilty yesterday (Wednesday 20 May 2015) to offences under S4 Public Order Act at Hereford Magistrates Court.

The offender was convicted for being verbally abusive to a Herefordshire Council Civil Enforcement Officer and throwing the parking ticket at them.

They were given £135 fine, made to pay £100 compensation, £100 costs and £20 victim surcharge.

The incident occurred on the 3rd April 2015, just before the introduction of body cameras, which are now worn routinely by Civil Enforcement Officers across the county. The incident was caught on CCTV.

Andrew Ashcroft, assistant director economic environmental and cultural services said, “Herefordshire Council will not tolerate any behaviour of this nature to any of its staff and will explore any means available to ensure that our staff are protected.

On this occasion, this particular individual was unnecessarily abusive and used language that was extremely offensive in a public place towards an officer who was doing their job.”
