Herefordshire Council’s Cabinet has today (Thursday 17 March) approved changes to the Supported Housing for Young People Project (SHYPP) contract.
This means SHYPPs accommodation based support service will be remodelled with a proportion of it being funded through exempt rents, which will allow the existing service level to be maintained from 1 April 2016 onwards. There will be a three month transitional period from 1 April to 30 June 2016 to support this change.
There will also be a 12 month transitional period from 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017 to support the de-commissioning and remodelling of SHYPPs floating support service. This will ensure the needs of the most vulnerable young people supported by SHYPP, will continue to be met over the longer term.
In order to support both of these transitional periods, the council will provide funding of £78,331.
Cabinet members welcomed the constructive engagement of SHYPP, in developing the recommendations and its commitment to continuing to work with the council during the transitional period, to ensure ongoing support will be available for the county’s most vulnerable young people.
