Herefordshire sports fans showed their support for resident Paralympian Sascha Kindred OBE by voting him ‘2016 Sports Personality of the Year’ at this year’s Herefordshire & Worcestershire Sports Awards.
As one of the most successful British para-swimmers of all time, Sascha has represented Great Britain in six Paralympic Games and became a 7-time Paralympic champion at Rio 2016. To add to his achievements, he also currently holds a number of British, European, Paralympic and World records.
Chairman of the Council, Councillor Brian Wilcox said: “This award is in recognition of Sascha’s achievements in Paralympic, World, European and other championships. He has seen a spectacular year representing Great Britain and Herefordshire; winning a Rio 2016 Paralympic gold, awarded Freeman of the County of Herefordshire and now achieving 2016 Sports Personality of the Year.”
Sharron Davies MBE presented the award as part of the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Sports Awards 2016; other winners included Core Skate Hereford CIC named ‘Community Project of the Year’ and Madley Primary School which was named ‘Sports School of the Year’.
