Herefordshire mental health day decision

Herefordshire Council logoFollowing a motion by full Council in July to consider establishing a standalone ‘Let’s Listen Herefordshire’ mental health day for the county, it has been decided not to proceed with this proposal.

There are already a wide range of existing mental health promotions and support activities across the county, including ‘One You’ and ‘Let’s Talk’. These will be further enhanced and extended with 2gether NHS Foundation Trust, to ensure they are successfully helping those with mental health concerns in Herefordshire.

Alongside partners in the Mental Health Partnership, the council will also further explore the opportunity to build on existing local initiatives, such as the Leominster Dementia Café and the pilot Ross and Wye Mental Health project, to increase the involvement of local communities in mental health promotion.

We appreciate that standalone days can have some short term promotional merit, however this would require additional resourcing which is currently unavailable, therefore diverting important resources away from existing initiatives and activities. We need to ensure we’re delivering a full year-round focus on the important issue of mental health and as such will continue to concentrate our resources towards supporting these locally.
